Trying to choose a planner or want to discover a new one?
As part of the 52 planners in 52 weeks (which I’ve been continuing this year) I did a LOT of research into different planners. While there aren’t enough weeks in a year to try them all, I’ve been adding to this list more and figured it would be a useful resource for my readers. So if you’re searching for planner peace I hope you find this massive roundup helpful!
Don’t forget to pin this post to refer back to later:

First, some things to check before buying a planner:
- Size (of the planner itself and the planner pages)
- Binding style – coil, discbound, ring bound etc. I did a comparison and shared which one I prefer in this post
- Coil size (you want there to be a bit of extra space if you want to plan using stickers as this will make your planner fatter)
- Extra pages included such as notes pages distributed throughout the planner, monthly goal setting, month in review, national holidays list (and whether national holidays are printed onto the planner pages themselves), important dates etc.
- If the month has the last day split in 2 to create a triangle (like the MAMBI does) or if it starts at the top of the calendar
- The number of holes for ring bound planners if you’re buying inserts
- When the planner starts (calendar year, academic year or you choose the start month)
- Sunday or Monday week start
- Hardcover or soft cover for the front and back covers
- Pocket or pencil case included for storing planner accessories such as sticky notes, stickers, pens etc.
- Coordinating extras e.g. stickers sized to suit the planner, extra pages/inserts you can add that are in the same style/layout/ which coordinate with the planner
- Thick paper weight so no pens will bleed through. I did detailed pen testing of the Erin Condren, Plum Paper, Happy Planner & Limelife Planners in this post
- Planner reviews – YouTube is a good place to start! Click here to subscribe to my YouTube channel!
- Is there a digital version of the layout that you can print and test try the planner before purchasing? (I did a roundup in this post)
- If the first and last weeks of the month start mid-week, whether they’re split between months, or are kept within their respective months
- If the months are color-coded (if you’re obsessed with color coding your planner like I am 🙂
- If they ship internationally – especially if you live in Australia like I do – a lot of planner companies such as Bluesky and Inkwell press don’t ship here 🙁
I went into more detail about things to check before choosing a planner in this post.

So many planners, so little time – anyone else wish there were more than 52 weeks in a year and that they had a bottomless bank account balance so they could try all these planners?!
I shared my top 7 planners from those I tried in 2017 in this post.
This post contains affiliate links. I was not compensated by any planner companies to include their planners in this list – this is just a list of planners I found when researching for my 52 planner sin 52 weeks challenge

Have you tried Ruth Soukup’s Living Well planner. She has a blog called Living Well Spending Less. She was having problems finding a decent planner and decided to make her own. It is undated, not sure of the price as she is American ( and I am Canadian). And I was going to suggest Michael Hyatt’s planner as well and that made your list.

Hi Chris, she hadn’t set up the webpage for the 2019 version of the Living Well Planner last I checked. You’re correct though – it’s there now and I’ve added it to the list 🙂
