Zebra are my favorite highlighter brand – always good quality, they do plenty of dual tip highlighters, they last a long time and the ink color is really vibrant.
One of their most popular highlighters are the Mildliner. Sure they highlight nicely but some of the color combinations in their packs are a bit odd. I like their 25 pack rainbow colors but it’s not readily available here in Australia 🙁 So I went in search of highlighters that look similar to the Mildliners with similar (or better!) colors and which are cheaper too.

Mildliner
Here’s some swatches for the Mildliners so you know what I’ll be comparing them against…
Not too much ghosting and no bleed through. This isn’t any fancy notebook with special super thick paper either – it’s just the Scrivwell notebook (only cost $12!)

1. Milkliner
… So these are probably the closest rip off of the Mildliner that there is. Not only do the highlighters themselves look similar but so do the colors.
The red is more of a brown than red but the aqua and shades of blue are much nicer than the Mildliner.
There is no ghosting on the back side of the page for any of the colors.
2. DONG-A Twinliner (soft)
The yellow / orange colors aren’t that nice, however the other colors in this set are super pretty! <3 those blues
Even the Dong-A and Milkliner look similar!
3. Daiso
These aren’t a twin tip but they do look eerily similar to the Mildliner and have similar ink colors. They’re worth a mention as they’re $2.80 per pack… as opposed to $2.80 for 1 Mildliner.
4. Uni-Propus Window
They have 5 packs of pastel and bright colors. I normally steer clear of pastel but this brand’s are actually really nice and not ‘washed out’ looking. I rarely find these in retail stores here in Australia but they are readily available online.
I thought both packs would have the same colors… but they don’t. The pastel has gold instead of yellow and orange plus a purple.
The bright pack doesn’t have a purple 🙁 and instead has an orange and yellow.
Not much ghosting either
5. Chosch
The Chosch highlighters are dual tip and look similar to the Mildliner fluorescent.
I wasn’t a fan of them – the colors are terrible. As you can see in the photo below – the green is a yukky olive green plus the yellow and orange are too light.

The Verdict
My favorite ‘knock off’ from this list is a combination of the Dong-A and Milkliner. I prefer the purples in the Milkliner but Dong-A include a red.
None of the highlighters on this list had bad ghosting and none bled-through either.
