My Mum loves patchwork quilting and was on the hunt for a new planner for 2020. She’s seen all the Happy Planner stuff and liked the idea of a discbound planner but not so much the bright colors of the Happy Planner. And then we came across the Simplicity discbound planner – a good cross between the 2.

- Undated
- 12 month duration

- 2 page Monthly calendar (starts on Monday)
- 2 page weekly spread (starts on Monday)

The Cover
This cover feels like that bendy poly material. Not cardstock, not laminate but still relatively sturdy just bendy at the same time.
Approx 1″ thick
The planner starts with some stitching specific sections – reference info, project sheets and swatches.
References
Project Sheets
There is 1 structured project sheet page and one grid page for notes & sketches.
Swatches
Not sure if you’d actually be able to fit any swatches on these pages since the discs are already at full capacity but if you removed some pages from the back they might fit.
Monthly Planning
Each month has 1 notes sheet and 1 functional monthly planning page.
Monthly Calendar
Starts Monday (which is consistent with the weekly spread).
There are different colors throughout the planner on the monthly and weekly spreads.
This color scheme is my favorite!
Weekly Planning
Like with the monthly calendar, there are different colors throughout the year – purple, blue, orange, green, yellow.
The boxes for Saturday and Sunday are the same size as the weekdays.
Extras pages
There are no notes pages at the back – the pages are already quite full on the coil.
The Happy Planner inserts can be used with this planner – the disc size, spacing and page size are the same.
Section Dividers & Tabs
The tabs are big, sturdy laminated cardstock with the text printed on both sides.
The dividers are a mix of patterns and vintage images.
Planner Stickers
There are 5 sheets of planner stickers. A random assortment of washi tape, functional stickers and vintage stickers. They’re a nice extra but the quantities are nowehere near enough. It would’ve been better if they did 5 vintage icon sticker sheets, or more checklist flag stickers etc.
Pocket Folders
There are small plastic pockets (similar to a business card holder) for storing swatches, buttons etc. as well as a zip lock clear pencil case that you could pull out of the planner (thanks to the disc binding).
Pros of the Planner
- Unique
- Stitching specific pages
- Sturdy discs – they are solid the whole way through so less chance of breaking
- Disc size & spacing is compatible with the MAMBI Happy Planner
- Planner stickers
- Plastic pockets for swatches, buttons, sticky notes etc.
- Undated
- Large sturdy tabs
- Lined writing space on the weekly spread
Cons of the Planner
- No extra notes pages
- The planner is quite fat and heavy
Would I use this planner?
No – but only because I don’t sew. If I’m going to use discbound planner I’ll be sticking to the Happy Planner.
