Archer and Olive versus Oops a Daisy: Which B5 dot grid notebook is better?
Archer and Olive was one of the first brands to make 160GSM dot grid notebooks and B5 page size widely available. But Oops a Daisy, while nowhere near as well known, also has plenty of bullet journal notebook options including 160GSM paper and B5 page size.
So let’s compare which is better!

Price
Archer and Olive B5 notebooks are $39 USD
Oops a Daisy B5 notebooks are £27.50 (which at the current exchange rate, converts to approx. $17.56 USD)
Winner: Oops a Daisy
Shipping
Oops a Daisy ships for free to the UK for orders over £35 (the company is UK based). This converts to $46.50 USD at the current exchange rate. If you need to get the cart order up I don’t think it would be very hard! Oops a Daisy have many handy accessories such as their journal grid guide ruler to help you quickly draw up spreads, washi tape, so many alphabet stencils and plenty of other bullet journaling accessories to choose from.

Archer and Olive offers free shipping to the lower 48 USA states (the company is USA based) for orders over $99 USD.
The best way to get around minimum spends is to order via Amazon, but unfortunately neither brand sells their products on Amazon.
My sister (Carefully Crafted) imports both notebooks and Oops a Daisy is far easier to communicate with and order through. Shipping is also cheaper and faster than via Archer and Olive who seem a bit disorganized with their wholesale customers and charge exorbitant shipping rates.
Winner: Oops a Daisy
Paper quality
Both notebooks have 160GSM paper. I already did a pen test in my A5 Archer and Olive notebook and the paper is the same, so let’s see how they compare:

Both notebooks had some ghosting of the MAMBi stamps which is quite disappointing as both have 160GSM thick paper which usually doesn’t have any show through. Overall, the Archer and Olive pen test was better.
Winner: Archer and Olive
Cover designs and colors
Archer and Olive have plenty of cover designs to choose from in mostly muted tones such as navy, maroon, black, light blue, beige, dark green, grey and teal. The linen hardcover often features small foiled nature themed graphics.
Oops a Daisy, on the other hand has faux leather covers in brighter colors including yellow, green, pink, purple as well as black and navy blue.

Winner: Tie, this one depends on personal preference.
Dot grid spacing
Both notebooks have a 5mm dot grid (that is 5mm from the edge of one dot to the next, not 5mm between the dots).

If the number of dots horizontally and vertically is important for the type of spreads you like to create (e.g. a specific number of columns), each notebook has a similar number of dots:
- Archer and Olive = 32 dots horizontally, 46 dots vertically
- Oops a daisy = 33 dots horizontally, 47 dots vertically

Winner: Tie.
Unique features
Some of the Archer and Olive notebooks have gold foil detail in the graphic on the cover, as well as the edges of the pages.
Oops a Daisy has a ‘this belongs to page’ and ‘notes for your next journal’ section. It also has markers in the middle of the grid to help you draw up spreads.

Winner: Tie, this one depends on personal preference
Other inclusions
Both notebooks include:
- An elastic band to wrap around the cover
- Pocket folder
- 2 ribbon bookmarks
- Lay flat binding
- Bright white paper

Both notebooks have bright white paper 🙂

Winner: Tie
So which notebook is best?
If you’re looking for a B5 notebook that has ‘no frills’ with an affordable price tag, then Oops a Daisy definitely wins. If you’re willing to spend a bit more to get a nicer cover or some gold foil edges on the pages, then Archer and Olive wins.
As for the rest of the features in the notebooks, they’re much the same with each notebook having nice bright white paper that is easy to write on, pocket folders and 5mm dot grid spacing. I do like the markers on the pages of the Oops a Daisy (saves so much time when creating spreads), it’s a shame Archer and Olive doesn’t include this too.
So overall, I’d say this is a tie – I recommend both the Archer and Olive and Oops a Daisy notebooks.
