Review of the Scrappy Planner by Lori Holt (and comparison with the Quilter’s Planner 2017)

If you’re a crafty person and need a planner combined with a project planner, then the Scrappy Planner may be the perfect planner for you!

I recorded a video and photos of the planner but accidentally deleted them from my iPhone #epicfail so we’ll just have to make do with the pretty professional photos courtesty of the creator of the planner, Lori Holt (which are 10x better than the photos I took anyway)

Pros of the Scrappy Planner

  • Light to carry
  • Portable size (7.5” wide x 9” high)
  • Days are color coded
  • Checklists for each day (perfect for list makers)
  • Lots of matching accessories including bookmarks/page markers, pens and even a sticker book (filled with tons of icon stickers!)

Cons of the Scrappy Planner

  • Undated (this can be a pro or a con depending on how you plan)
  • Dividers are a bit flimsy
  • There are notes pages – but not many
  • One page weekly planning space with checklists – you could keep track of appointments, birthdays and the like in the notes section of the weekly spread, but if this is something you prefer to see on each day – then this may annoy you

Overall, the Scrappy Planner is a very simple planner with no frills. It is ideal:

  • If you’re just starting to use a planner
  • List maker
  • Are thinking about upgrading from a monthly calendar to a weekly planner and aren’t sure if a weekly planner is right for you
  • Only use a planner occasionally, to plan busy weeks
  • You’re a crafter and want project planning and quilting reference notes built in (or if you aren’t a quilter you could always rip those pages out of the planner, but undated weekly planner printables would be a more budget friendly alternative)
  • If you’re not interested in planning using planner stickers

A similar planner you may also be interested in is the 2017 Quilter’s Planner. Some of the differences between the Scrappy Planner and the Quilter’s Planner are:

  • Quilters planner is dated while the Scrappy Planner is undated
  • The quilter’s Planner is larger than the Scrappy Planner at 8.5″ wide x 10″ high compared to 7.5” wide x 9”
  • Monthly calendar
  • Both have spiral binding
  • The project planning pages are larger in the Scrapper planer (2 pages per project) compared to 1 project per page for the Quilter’s Planner
  • The Quilters’ planner has a 2 page per week spread with more writing space. It also has an hourly layout. The Scrapper planner has 1 week per page with a checklist for each day and a notes section for the week
  • 6 quilt patterns by Lori Holt are included in the Scrapper Planner. There are 14 patterns from various designers included in the Quilters Planner
  • The Quilters planer includes extras pages such as blank notes paper and graph paper
  • The cover of the Quilters Planner is sturdier
  • Both include reference guide for quilting

If you want to get a copy of either the Scrappy Planner or the Quilter’s Planner, my sister has them in her shop, Carefully Crafted, along with fabric and a bunch of planner supplies including Happy Planner, Prima Planner, planner stickers, planner accessories and hundreds of washi tapes!
