Planning using the Horizontal Erin Condren Life Planner (52 Planners in 52 Weeks – Week 6)

Stickers, oh how I’ve missed you! After trying no sticker spreads in weeks 1 to 5 of this challenge I was ready to go back to planning using my favorite type of stickers – icons!

This week I used the Erin Condren Horizontal Life Planner. I’d previously used the vertical version and didn’t like it (I don’t think vertical life planners suit me in general). But then after Erin Condren released the horizontal I had to give it a try. I did an EC haul back during their Black Friday sale (haul video is on my YouTube Channel).

The stickers used I this weeks’ spread:

  1. Daily top 3 and meal planning sidebar (printable)
  2. Mail tracker (printable) (I’ve also have icon only mail stickers)
  3. Don’t forget (printable)
  4. Routine / habit tracker (printable – editable)
  5. Fitness stickers
  6. Cleaning icons
  7. Meal planning icons
  8. Money icons
  9. Movie Icons
  10. Shopping/Couponing

I think doing a spread with so much color clashed with the colors of the planner. Maybe I should’ve got the neutral version instead…

My printer ink was running low so the colors of the colors of the daily sidebar were a bit dull 🙁

I tried out some of MAMBI’s deco tape (kind of like a cross between white out and washi tape) for (the ‘celebrate’ section) for my sister’s birthday. The tape’s cool but I wish the colors had been a bit nicer! It does come in a few other styles and I also found some similar tape at Daiso.

Pens used

This week I used some of my favorite pens – the PaperMate Inkjoy Gel 0.7 (they’re pricey but worth it)

The stars under movie night are the Frixion erasable stamps (from Officeworks, although I’ve also seen them on Etsy)

Pros and cons of this week:

  • I like clustering like things together – so writing the blog post I have planned for that day up the top and then the icons with the task down the bottom. I didn’t give it a lot of thought when I started planning and just stuck the stickers anywhere so the week did end up looking a bit messy
  • I started out writing tasks and drawing a checkbox, but I much prefer the look of icon stickers as it makes it so much neater
  • I often use don’t forget stickers or create an entire section in the planner or use the sidebar for reminders. These are typically the same routine tasks like reminders to upload videos to my YouTube Channel, backup files, or pay bills etc. I think I should just put these on a sticky note. I was using this list making insert for a while but I think I’d rather just make a printable insert with the tasks already typed in (as that’s way neater than my messy handwriting!)
  • I need to find new ways to use the notes section. I tend to either be paralyzed by all of the options and different ways I could use it and then be so overwhelmed that I don’t use it at all. Or the other extreme where it just becomes a disorganized brain dump. If you have any suggestions for how you use the note taking space, let me know in the comments below – I’m always interested stalking.. err…looking at how other people plan their week 🙂
  • This week was a bit of a rainbow style (as in, I’m just going to use whatever color for whatever sticker). I was going to do my usual color coding but apart from color coding the blog posts in purple, I just used whatever pen color matched the sticker color. Before I started this challenge I used to use the same colors and the same icons week after week and that got a bit boring (hence why I’m doing this challenge!)

Would I use this planner again?

Yes, I love horizontal planners – I feel you can fit so much more into the space. I thought about sectioning off the lined note taking space into 2 by drawing a line in the middle (horizontally, not vertically) and wish I had done this to to keep it more organized and neater.
