Converting the Day Designer daily into a weekly planner

I have many planners that sit in my bookcase unused – especially daily planners. So I decided to try hacking a daily planner into a weekly spread.

Before the Pen

You’ve probably see the Day Designer before. If not it has a very typical daily planner layout:

After the Pen

Yep… another rainbow spread! I wanted to try out my new Tombow Kei Coat highlighters. They’re dual tip but ended up being slightly too thick to write with so I just used pen for almost everything. Maybe I’ll try them again next week.

I wasn’t sure what was the best way to use the 4 boxes at the top so opted to use it for once a week tasks. Since space is tight, I used icon stickers:

  • Egg with $ = check investments (shares)
  • File folder = clean computer files
  • Photos = backup photos (personal & business)
  • Makeup = clean makeup brushes
  • Shopping = EOFY sales!
  • The rest of the cleaning icons are self-explanatory (washing, vacuum and clean bathroom)

The space at the top was looking quite plain but I thought washi tape may end up a bit overdone. So I went for more subtle highlighter. I probably should’ve done the diagonal lines at the bottom too – never mind. You don’t need a dual tip highlighter to do the diagonal lines that I did but it does make it quick & easy.

I ended up using the empty boxes at the bottom for jotting down random things that popped up during the week.

Sidenote: I planned an entire trip to Japan for next year. But after much research found that it would likely time the end of cherry blossom season so now I’m waiting until the following year so I can use Easter public holidays. So no Japan stationery hauls anytime soon 🙁  Back to the drawing board for somewhere to go to over Easter next year. I wish Australia wasn’t so isolated from the rest of the world!

Would I use this planner again?

Hacked into a weekly spread the planner didn’t work too bad. I’d definitely modify other daily planners in the future, especially if it has less sections than the Day Designer has (i.e. a more flexible & easily customisable layout).
