How to resize any printable for any size bullet journal

The number one question I’m asked is how to resize printables.

You can resize any printable to fit any planner, notebook or bullet journal. Since all bullet journals are different page sizes I’ve included a reference list further down this post.

How to resize a printable

I show how to print at various page sizes in the video. For bullet journal printables you’ll want ‘custom’ page size (start watching the video at 2 minutes in)

To enlarge the screen of the video, click the square icon in the bottom right hand corner of the video (it will say ‘full screen’ when you hover your mouse over the icon).

Things to consider:

  • If you don’t want to resize a full page size printable down to 1 page in a bullet journal which is much smaller, you could cut the printable in half and glue across 2 pages (this works well for habit trackers) rather than shrinking a lot smaller
  • You may want to leave a small margin for the binding side i.e. so you aren’t trying to glue the page right into the margin
  • If you don’t want to use glue, washi tape works well for sticking to the page
  • If you want to be able to write on the page underneath the printable, apply washi tape to only the top. Then you can lift up the page and write underneath
  • Since most dot grid notebooks have rounded corners, you may prefer to resize the printable to fit over the dots, not right to the edge of the page

This habit tracker is from this printable set in my shop. If you still want to be able to write on the page underneath, just put the washi tape on 1 side only to create a ‘flap.’

Bullet journal notebook page sizes

Since most dot grid notebooks have rounded corners, you may prefer to resize the printable to fit over the dots, not right to the edge of the page. The following dimensions are taken from the left dot to the right dot and the top dot to the bottom dot:

  • Leuchtturm 1917 Bullet Journal
    • 13.1cm wide x (27 dots)
    • 19cm high (39 down)
  • Scrivwell
    • 11.5cm wide (24 dots)
    • 19cm high (39 dots)
  • Siwengde
    • 16.6cm Wide (47 dots)
    • 23.cm High (34 dots)
  • Minimalism Art
    • 12cm wide (25 dots)
    • 19.5cm high (40 dots)
  • Scribbles that Matter
    • 13cm wide (27 dots)
    • 18.5cm high (38 dots)
  • Rhodia goal book
    • 14cm (29 dots)
    • 20cm (41 dots)
    • The dots of this notebook go right to the edge of the page. It’s also softcover so rulers are more prone to slipping. So if I use printables in a bullet journal, it will be in this notebook
  • Otto dot grid (Australian)
    • 13cm wide (25 dots)
    • 18.9cm high (36 down)
  • Plum Paper A5 dot grid
    • 13cm wide (27 across)
    • 20cm high (41 down)
  • Artist’s Loft
    • 14cm wide (29 dots)
    • 17.5cm high (36 dots) (Note: this notebook has a title bar up the top so you could make it 1cm higher)
  • Point Journal
    • 13cm wide
    • 19cm high
    • This might be a good journal to use printables with as I’ve owned it for a year and the ink of the dots has almost completely faded (i.e. it’s like a notebook with blank paper now)
  • Letter Love Designs
    • 11.3cm Wide (note: this notebook has a wide margin on both vertical sides of the page so you could make it 1cm wider)
    • 19.2cm high

If the dot grid notebook you use isn’t listed above, 13cm wide x 19cm high seems to be standard but you can of course measure your notebook and choose ‘custom’ page size in your printer menu.

Some printables you may want to add to your bullet journal

  • Habit tracker
  • Meal planner
  • Cleaning schedules
  • Checklists (especially routine task lists)
  • Monthly calendars (save time instead of ruling them up)
  • A daily / weekly or any layout that you use often
  • Important dates at a glance pages (page with just the dates for an entire year)
  • Dinner ideas
  • Goal planning pages
  • Project planning
  • Annual holidays list
  • Class timetable
  • etc.!

There are plenty of printables in my shop and the free printables library.
