I mostly use my Happy Planner with my own printables, for bullet journaling or with the Happy Planner refill inserts.
Happy Planner have so many inserts these days:
- Lists
- Recipe sheets
- Graph paper
- Dot grid
- Lined notes
- Day to a page
- Weekly planner
My sister stocks all things Happy Planner in her planner supplies shop so I’ve seen many inserts over the years. These are my favorite!
Favorite Happy Planner Inserts
My favorite inserts are classic size or smaller. I love the full width and half sheet inserts.
If I had to choose an all time favorite that works well with anything, then this dot grid paper with the black stripe that’s been around for a while is a definite staple. I’ve used it for black and white only spreads, paired it with rainbow pens, highlighters, washi tape etc. Black works well with anything.
Some of my past weekly spreads using Happy Planner Inserts:
- Happy Notes Half Sheet Review + DIY Half Sheet Printable Inserts
- Using MAMBI inserts and Carpe Diem planner stickers for a colorful weekly spread!

There are many more Happy Planner refill pages to choose from, these are just my favorites:
Classic Happy Planner
The only weekly layout I actually use from Happy Planner is the dashboard layout with 1 page for the weekly and another for checklists. I already have a Happy Planner so I just reused the same rings and covers and just get the dashboard extension pack.

Lists are my favorite way to plan! These functional lists are my favorite:
- Notes & things – could use this as a weekly planner with a different color for each day, or categorised lists
- Checklists with different colored list paper (great for color coding)
- Big Ideas checklists – same as above. I just like these more as it has a rainbow polka dot design on the side
- Get it done Miss Maker – these foil inserts are so pretty I’m going to use them for project planning. Since they’re so nice (and due to the foil are a bit pricey) if I use them for projects they’ll last longer than just a 1 page weekly spread or brain dump
- Rainbow notes (1 side is lined, the other graph)
- Rainbow lined notes
I like using a mix of colored inserts for color coding and ones with white paper so I can use colored pens and highlighters.
Classic Happy Planner Half Sheet
Below are some of my favorite half sheets:
- Focus on
- Today top 3 (has dot grid on the back!)
- Get it done
- Dot grid with the black stripe spine
- Daily schedule rainbow weekly + checklist on the back (I think this is the most functional half sheet weekly planner they have)
- Fold out half sheet
- Get Focused
- Rainbow weekly
- Checklists (since these are 1 color per checklist, they’re great for color-coded planning)
- Checklists with rainbow polka dots
Mini Happy Planner
I only use my mini Happy Planner for checklists – it’s too small for weekly planning for my liking. I actually tend to use mini inserts in my classic Happy Note.
I really like the mini half sheet habit trackers and lists as they don’t cover the entire spread in a classic planner.
As for the mini half sheet? I really only use the habit tracker and the lists.
- Mini half sheet checklist
- Mini budget
- Mini planner babe you got this note paper
- Mini checklists
- Mini dot grid on colored paper
- Mini half sheet habit tracker
- Mini half sheet today top 3
Bullet Journal Inserts
When the Happy Notes came out I found bullet journal planner peace. I use it for bullet journaling much more often than sewn bound notebooks. The size of the notebooks are perfect! While the Happy Notes come with lots of pretty different dot grid inside pages, sometimes I want to use different inserts which is when I’ll usually reach for one of these.
- Rainbow diagonal stripes with dot grid
- Rainbow horizontal stripes with dot grid
- Colored sheet dot grid
- Rainbow notes (1 side is lined, the other graph)
- Rainbow lined list with pastel dots
- Rainbow lined notes
- Rainbow dot grid
- Dot grid with black stripe
I’ve flipped the packaging over to the back so you can see better – as most of the half sheets have different designs on each side e.g. a functional list on 1 side and dot grid on the other side. I do wish Happy Planner would create inserts with the same design on both sides.
Themed Inserts
I don’t have a use for these as I use a recipe binder to organize recipes, I don’t use day to a page planners etc. however if you did want to plan with these types of inserts, these are my favorite functional designs:
- AM / PM day to a page planner
- Recipe sheet (comes in half sheet too)
- Project worksheets
- Teacher attendance or grades tracker
- Day to a page planner (schedule + checklist)
- Assignment tracker half sheet
- Expenses tracker
None of these inserts suit you? See this post for a tutorial on how to resize any printable to Happy Planner size. If you need some printables, there are plenty in my shop!
