How to do color coded weekly meal planning in less than 5 minutes using sticky notes

Today’s post is a quick tip for my fellow time poor planner addicts!

I love sticky notes and experimenting with different ways of using them.

I’ve used sticky notes in the past for monthly meal planning…

And also for weekly meal planning…

Watch the video to find out another method for meal planning using sticky notes that greatly reduces the time it takes to meal plan.

Step 1:

Grab some sticky notes (make sure they’re transparent). I like to use small page flag markers that can be found at the cheap shop for $1 (for my fellow Aussies I’ve seen them at Stacks, The Reject Shop and Daiso).

The reason you want to use sticky notes is so you can peel them off and re-stick them the following week without having to re-print a list of all your meals again and again.

Step 2:

Print out a list (or write a list if you prefer) of your favorite meals. The printable I used is from this recipe binder kit in my shop.

Step 3:

(optional) Choose your colors. These are the colors I tend to stick to for meal planning:

  • Green = chicken
  • Yellow = lunch
  • Pink = pork
  • Blue = Seafood
  • Orange = Beef

Using different colors helps you see if you’re eating too much of one food group.

Step 4:

Place a sticky note over the meals you’re going to cook that week.

I place the yellow flags for lunch (which is usually leftovers) at the end of the recipe rather than stacking on top of other page flags so I can still clearly see all the colors.

Step 5:

Take a photo of the meals (and your grocery list). After a few weeks you’ll have a bunch of ready-made meal plans and grocery lists which will make meal planning even quicker!

Simple, quick, cheap and easy 🙂
