The best vertical weekly planners (my top 5)
Many years ago there used to really only be two main weekly layouts that planners came in: horizontal and vertical. So it makes sense that there are lots of planners with these spreads to choose from these days.
This post has what I think, are the best vertical weekly planners (I had trouble choosing but managed to narrow it down to a top 5!).
These planners make it to my list for one or more of the following reasons:
- Good paper – either smooth to write on and / or minimal ghosting or bleed through
- Quality – a quality coil and cover that will last an entire year
- Good layout – practical layout that can be customised to suit different needs
- Personalisation – of the cover or the inside pages
The best vertical weekly planners
1. Agendio
Let’s start with the most customisable planner company I’ve come across so far – Agendio. They can make basically any layout you like, including some very unique layouts you’re not going to find elsewhere like this:

See how I used it in this post: Weekly spread in my custom vertical Agendio planner (with spans)

Agendio planner features
- Choose from dated or undated (and any start month)
- Multiple cover designs to choose from
- Various page sizes available
- Can pre-fill with important dates – I opted to add taxes filing, birthdays, insurance renewal, my Etsy shop anniversary etc. – very handy feature and Agendio saves them in their system so if you order another planner it’ll pre-fill it for you so you don’t have to re-enter them all in again
- Take a base layout and customise it in so many ways – type of line style, checkboxes or no checkboxes, 1 large section or divide into multiple sections
- Daily, weekly and monthly spreads to choose from
- Customise add on pages e.g. pre-print titles on checklists
- You choose how many pages to make your planner
- Can make a daily planner only, weekly planner only, monthly calendar only, a combination day + week + month, week + month, day + month etc.
- Spiral bound soft cover (they also offer hardcover)
- Australian holidays pre-printed (they have other country’s holiday available too)
- Choose what font you’d like from their options
- Choose between colorful and neutral (black and white only) spreads
- Can also choose between the same colors or different colors per month
- Add tabs
- Add perforated corners if you’d like to tear them off as you go
And perhaps one of the best features fora vertical weekly planner – spans. These can be used for tasks that extend over multiple days so you don’t have to re-write them and waste space.

2. Plum Paper vertical priorities
Not as many customisation options as the Agendio, but the Plum Paper is a great alternative (and has better paper).

When I purchased this planner a few years ago Plum Paper didn’t have the option to customise the categories in the columns for each day but nowadays, you can choose to leave these blank, or have Plum Paper pre-print whatever text you like.

If you like lots of sections for each day, the Plum Paper Me Planner is a good option.
I purchased the inserts unpunched then created my own discbound planner, but these days you can get the planners with disc binding straight from Plum Paper.

Plum Paper Planner features
- Weekly spreads start on a Monday
- Comes in 3 page sizes (I almost always opt for the medium 7 x 9″ which is what is shown in the photos above)
- Start the dates in your planner in any month, or choose the undated version
- Choose from 12-18 months
- Month & Year-at-a-Glance Pages
- Monthly Highlights Pages
- Monthly Notes Pages (generally 2 per month)
- Double Sided Pocket Folder
- Durable Aluminum Binding Coil
- Durable Mylar Coated Tabs
- Paper Weight: 70lb text
- Tear proof & water resistant cover with a clear plastic protective sheet
3. Happy Planner
Wondering if I even need to write anything about the Happy Planner at this point, as I’m sure everyone reading this post has already heard of the Happy Planner!
Their vertical weekly layouts would be ideal if you already know what you want to plan where and don’t need category labels for each section, as it’s just a thin divider line to create the 3 boxes.
My favorite vertical layout that the Happy Planner came out it with was the Amy Tangerine collab a few years ago: wish I could just buy an entire sticker sheet with days of the week stickers like these. And those rainbow discs… <3

Happy Planner features
- 3 page sizes to choose from
- 12 month dated, 18 month dated, 12 month undated versions
- Disc binding
- Laminated front and back covers
- Dates at a glance yearly overview calendars
- Monthly divider tabs
- Monthly planning page

If you like the Happy Planner layout but not all of the colors in their planner, you can use the Happy Planner inserts with the Maggie Holmes planner and visa versa.

Vertical Scheduling – the schedule runs from 5am to 12am with lined notes underneath each day.

Vertical Family – While this planner is intended for a family, you could use the different boxes for different areas of your life e.g. meal planning, cleaning, eat that frog, bills etc.

5. Limelife Planners
Limelife Planners have multiple vertical weekly spreads including their:
- Layout A (lined columns)
- Layout B (scheduled)
- Layout C (categories – similar to the Plum Paper)
- layout D – vertical dashboard – not the ‘official name’ just what I’ve nicknamed it
- Layout H – teacher or student planner layout (5 categories)
- Layout I – teacher or student planner layout (9 categories)
The majority of the above layouts come in 4 page sizes:
- 8.5″ wide x 11″ high (US letter size)
- 7″ wide x 9″ high
- 8 x 8″ (square)
- A5
And the best part: you can download and try them for free from the Limelife Planners website. So you can really test if you like a layout before committing to buying a planner.

I don’t often use vertical weekly spreads but my favorite that Limelife offers is their layout D – it’s not your traditional vertical weekly spread!
