I try and do a few Christmas themed weekly spreads each December but time got away from me and I only had time to do one this year.
Before the Pen
Now that international borders are open, I’m in the thick of planning a trip to Europe next year! So wanted something really quick and simple to set up. My favorite way to make a simple spread look less plain and boring is with washi tape.

I started with a patterned Christmas washi tape, then paired it with some foil washi tape. Probably hard to tell in the photo below, but the patterned Christmas washi also has gold foil in it (I like things to be coordinated!)
The paper quality isn’t that great in the notebook I was using (the Peter Pauper press essentials dot matrix notebook). It’s only 120GSM so when I erase my favorite Frixon pens there is a feint pen mark left behind, it doesn’t completely erase like it does in notebooks that have better quality paper.
After the Pen
The pages in this notebook are prone to closing on their own, even after I broke the spine (which usually makes the pages stay open on their own).
The foil washi tape I used was very forgiving, if you stick it down and realise it’s crooked, you can peel it up and re-stick it again.
If you follow my blog you’ll notice I use list based weekly spreads more than day based weekly spreads. But some weeks I do have appointments and things happening on certain days, so this appointment box kept them organized.
The Peter Pauper Press notebook measures 5.5″ (14cm) wide by 8.25″ (21cm) high and there are 27 dots across the page. I wouldn’t normally do 2 columns in a notebook of this size, but I didn’t have too many things on the to do list this week so the 2 columns worked this time.
I use my travel planning spreadsheets and Word document for planning all the itinerary details. There is a master list in my travel planning spreadsheets where I can brain dump every single thing I need to do to plan & prep for the entire trip – all the way from researching flight routes to doing a practice pack of my suitcase. It works really well to keep everything organized and in the one place. When I’m in the middle of planning a holiday like I am now, I pick things off the master list to add to my planner for the week.
Since I always use checkboxes, I used a strip of washi tape instead for something different.
Supplies used
- Peter Pauper press essentials dot matrix notebook
- 3mm The Paper Studio bright foil washi (gold, red and green)
- PA Essentials Stencils ‘Roman Alpha’ (no longer available, here are some similar stencils from the same brand)
- Frixion erasable pen 0.7mm (black)
- Christmas washi tape (now sold out, this set is similar)
I was originally going to do this spread with 3mm glitter washi. Specifically, the Paper Studio glitter washi tape.
Would I use this layout again?
Yes, but I’d use a notebook with a wider page size if I’m going to do 2 columns, or make the lists boxes go horizontal instead of vertical.
You could easily replicate this spread using non-Christmas themed washi tape.
I had kept the Peter Pauper Press Notebook for experimenting with bullet journal spreads (like a practice notebook) and will be going back to do that. There are so many notebooks with better paper quality available, I’d rather use something with thicker paper for my actual weekly spreads.
